Can I Wear Skirts?

When it comes to high fashion, there are many people who look wistfully at skirts and then turn away. They think that they are too short, too plump, too hippy or any number of other reasons to put on a skirt, and while it is true that the wrong skirt can make you look like a pumpkin with a ruffle around it, the right skirt can make you look divine.

Short Skirts

The truth about wearing a skirt is to not necessarily look at the length, but to first look at what it is doing around your waist. If the skirt that you are wearing bunches unattractively around your waist, it adds a lot of visual weight to your silhouette, and it can drag your entire presentation down. For people who worry about having a little too much weight around the middle, look for a skirt that has a flat yoke that clings to your hips. These garments open up below your hips, and they do lovely things for your waist.

Also don’t forget that when you wear short skirts, you don’t necessarily need to leave your legs bare. You’d be surprise how a simple pair of black sweater tights calms down a shorter skirt, and if you have a skirt in a neutral colour, you can even use multi-coloured tights to make the outfit look a lot livelier. One hot trend right now is to pair a shorter skirt with slightly baggy capri-length yoga pants. This trend gives you a lot of swish, a lot of coverage, and just a lot of fun.

When you got to order skirts online, the first thing to remember is to check to see how the model is built. If the model is slightly hippy or if, as in many cases, she is very slender, make sure that you account for how that will look on you. A good skirt is one that flatters your curves and that gives you the right silhouette.

Do not be shy about ruffles. Ruffles usually add weight, but sometimes, that is exactly what you want. A ruffle that is situated directly below the widest point of your hips is quite attractive, giving you a bit of extra flare, while a ruffle around the bottom hem of your skirt adds a bit of kicky appeal.

Remember that when it comes to wearing a skirt, you should have an idea in mind about what you want to get across. The right skirt can give you the look of an urban sophisticate, the flirty charm of a cowgirl or a certain bohemian laissez-faire attitude that is so hot right now. Find a skirt that really gets the point across!
